October 10, 2008 - SASKATCHEWAN LEADING NATION IN JOB GROWTH AND LOWEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE
Saskatchewan employment numbers have again hit record monthly levels, according to a release from Statistics Canada today.

There were 522,500 people working in Saskatchewan in September 2008 - an increase of 18,100 jobs from September 2007. Full-time employment increased by 15,400 jobs in the last year. At the same time, Saskatchewan's unemployment rate is the lowest in Canada at 3.6 per cent.

October 7, 2008 - FUNDING FOR FIRST NATIONS UNIVERSITY OF CANADA
An agreement was signed today by the Government and the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) that allocates up to $1.6 million in funding for FNUniv.

September 25, 2008 - MORE FUNDS FOR INFECTIOUS DISEASE RESEARCH, VACCINE DEVELOPMENT
The Government of Saskatchewan will increase its annual funding to the University of Saskatchewan's Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO) by $1.7 million.

The funding increase commits the province to an annual total of $3.5 million for VIDO, which researches infectious diseases in animals and humans and develops vaccines.

The Government of Saskatchewan is strengthening the safety of mine workers with an increased industry standard that will require physical barriers in areas that may contain hidden hazards.

Previously, warning signs were the accepted industry standard to prevent entrance into hazardous areas. The change comes after an investigation into the 2007 fatality of a worker at the Seabee Gold Mine.
