November 6, 2009 -  GED HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT AWARD RECIPIENT FOR 2008 ANNOUNCED  Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris was in Saskatoon today to present Terry Lamers with the 2008 General Educational Development (GED) National Award for Outstanding Achievement for the province of Saskatchewan. Norris presented the award with Dr. Robert G. McCulloch, president and CEO of SIAST.

November 6, 2009 -  SASKATCHEWAN RECORDS CANADA’S LOWEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE FOR THE FIFTH STRAIGHT MONTH  Saskatchewan's unemployment rate of 5.3 per cent (seasonally adjusted) is once again the lowest in Canada, while Saskatoon and Regina have the lowest unemployment rates among Canadian cities, according to the October Labour Force Survey released today by Statistics Canada.

October 30, 2009 -   SASKATCHEWAN WORKERS EARNING MORE THAN EVER BEFORE In the face of a global recession, average weekly earnings in Saskatchewan have reached an all-time high of $808.82.

October 27, 2009 -  SASKATCHEWAN STANDS ALONE WITH THE LOWEST PER CAPITA NUMBER OF EI BENEFICIARIES IN CANADA Saskatchewan has fewer EI beneficiaries per capita than any other province following a 5.3 per cent decrease in EI beneficiaries month over month.

October 26, 2009 - OCTOBER 25 TO NOVEMBER 1 HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS WEEK IN SASKATCHEWAN Health Care Providers Week recognizes the thousands of men and women who provide health care services across Saskatchewan.

October 16, 2009 - Government of Canada and Saskatchewan Announce Imvestment to help Train Trades-people in Saskatchewan Saskatoon Trades and Skills Centre Inc. (STSC) will strengthen economic opportunities in Saskatchewan through the construction of a new training facility for trades-people. The announcement was made by Kelly Block, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon - Rosetown - Biggar, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and the Honourable Rob Norris, Minister of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour.

October 16, 2009 - EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM PROVIDES A STEP UP FOR PROVINCIAL OFFENDERS Two provincial ministers have joined a Prince Albert organization to cut the ribbon on the Supported Transition to Employment Program (STEP), which helps people with barriers access Saskatchewan's labour market.

October 15, 2009 -  GED HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT AWARD RECIPIENT FOR 2008 ANNOUNCED  Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris was in Weyburn today to present Cheryl McGrath with the 2008 General Educational Development (GED) National Award for Outstanding Achievement for the province of Saskatchewan. Norris presented the award with Craig Brown, President and CEO of Southeast Regional College (SERC). 

Octiber 13, 2009 - CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN ON NEXT PHASE OF U OF S ACADEMIC HEALTH SCIENCES CENTRE Work on the E Wing phase of the University of Saskatchewan's Academic Health Sciences project is now underway. A sod-turning ceremony was held today at the University to announce the contractor selected to construct the project and to mark the beginning of this project that will enable a more integrated and multi-disciplined health care model for Saskatchewan.

October 9, 2009 - SASKATCHEWAN'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE REMAINS THE LOWEST IN CANADA Saskatchewan continued to have the lowest unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) in Canada in September, with unemployment at 4.6 per cent, down from 5.0 per cent in August.

 October 8, 2009 - REVIEW RECOMMENDS SEPARATE UNION BARGAINING AT SASKATCHEWAN UNIVERSITIES The Saskatchewan Government has accepted the findings of an independent report recommending changes to the current collective bargaining structure at the University of Saskatchewan and University of Regina.

 October 8, 2009 - $12 MILLION TO TRAIN NOTHERNERS FOR JOBS IN THE MINERAL SECTOR Eleven partners from public, private, and non-profit organizations were in La Ronge today to sign an agreement committing $12.7 million over the next five years for training and apprenticeship opportunities in northern Saskatchewan.

October 1, 2009 - NEW IMMIGRATION PROCESS BOOSTS NOMINATIONS, INVESTIMENTS AND JOBS CREATION  Saskatchewan's Minister Responsible for Immigration, Rob Norris, today launched a new process for the Entrepreneur Category of the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) that will improve processing times, attract investment and foster the creation of more jobs in Saskatchewan.

September 30, 2009 -SASKATCHEWAN WORKERS CONTINUE TO SEE HIGHER WAGES  Saskatchewan's average weekly wage is now $803.90, according to numbers released today by Statistics Canada. 

September 25, 2009 - MINIMUM WAGE BOARD SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT ON MINIMUM WAGE The Saskatchewan Minimum Wage Board is reviewing the minimum wage and invites members of the public to participate. Public involvement is important, and the board invites the public to submit their opinions, concerns and experience with the minimum wage by October 30, 2009.

August 28, 2009 -  SASKATCHEWAN WORKERS SEE EARNINGS INCREASE Saskatchewan's payroll increases continue to outpace the national average, according to a new report released today by Statistics Canada. Average weekly earnings in Saskatchewan increased by 2.6 per cent (seasonally adjusted) in June 2009 compared to June 2008, well above the national average of 1.8 per cent.

August 10, 2009 - KNOWLEDGE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS MOVE FORWARD AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN  Federal and provincial government officials were at the University of Saskatchewan today to discuss an update on the $22.9 million in funding going towards refurbishing a number of roofs and renovating the Western College of Veterinary Medicine diagnostic lab.

August 7, 2009 - SASKATCHEWAN STILL HAS STRONGEST JOB NUMBERS IN CANADA Despite some job losses in July, Saskatchewan continues to post the lowest unemployment rate in Canada and is now the only province with more people working than a year ago, according to the latest labour force report released today by Statistics Canada.

July 23, 2009 - FUNDING ANNOUNCED FOR KNOWLEDGE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF REGINA  The federal and provincial governments were at the University of Regina today to announce $16.7 million in knowledge infrastructure funding to upgrade and enhance research and educational facilities at the University of Regina.

July  22, 2009 - GOVERNMENT INTRODUCES NEW MINIMUM AGE OF EMPLOYMENT Changes to The Minimum Wage Regulations will establish age 16 as the general minimum age of employment in Saskatchewan.

July  13, 2009 - GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO THE MINIMUM WAGE BOARD The government today announced changes to the province's Minimum Wage Board.

July 10, 2009 - FUNDING FOR ST. PETER’S COLLEGE AND CARLTON TRAIL REGIONAL COLLEGE ANNOUNCED The federal and provincial governments announced today that St. Peter's College, in Muenster, and Carlton Trail Regional College, in Humboldt, will receive over $13 million for knowledge infrastructure funding to provide new educational and training opportunities for students.

July 3, 2009 - GOVERNMENT INVESTS $510,000 TO PROMOTE WORKPLACE ESSENTIAL SKILLS  Government of Saskatchewan announced today that it has invested $510,000 in funding for the Workplace Essential Skills Saskatchewan Initiative, to enable approximately 250 workers and job-seekers to build the skills they need for long-term employment and advancement.

June 26, 2009 - ARTHON CONSTRUCTION LTD. PLEADS GUILTY TO OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY VIOLATION  Arthon Construction Ltd. pled guilty to two charges and was fined a total of $11,200 after violating occupational health and safety legislation that could have prevented a work-related injury.
