If you are a student with a permanent disability that limits your physical or mental ability to perform the daily activities necessary to participate fully in post-secondary studies, you may be eligible for special benefits, such as:

  • Eligibility to receive full-time assistance for a reduced course load - between 40 and 59 percent of a full course load.
  • An extended eligibility for loans of up to 520 weeks of study to accommodate a reduced course load.
  • Student Grants for Student with Permanent Disabilities

In order to be considered for the benefits listed above, you must supply appropriate medical documentation verifying your disability when you apply for full-time assistance. 

Documentation needs only to be submitted once and may consist of the following:

  • a medical certificate;
  • a learning disability assessment; or
  • a document proving that you receive federal and/or provincial disability assistance.

 

Canada Student Grant for Persons with Permanent Disabilities

Under this grant, students with permanent disabilities will receive $2,000 per academic year to help cover the costs of accommodation, tuition, and books. Formerly named the Canada Access Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities.

 

Canada/Saskatchewan Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Persons with Permanent Disabilities

Under this grant, students with permanent disabilities who have exceptional education-related costs such as tutors, note-takers, interpreters, braillers or technical aids receive up to $10,000 per academic year. Once your application is processed, you will receive written notification of your eligibility. A separate application form is required for this grant. Formerly named the Canada Study Grant for the Accommodation of Students with Permanent Disabilities.

A Consent to Share Information Form should accompany your application for the Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Persons with Permanent Disabilities if you want your educational institution to share information with Saskatchewan Student Financial Assistance Branch for the purpose of administering this grant.
