Gabriel Dumont Institute and the Northern Teachers’ Education Program (NORTEP) have partnerships with the universities to offer accredited classes leading to degrees to students of Aboriginal ancestry or from the north.

Affiliated colleges are similar to federated colleges without becoming academically merged with the university. Most of the Affiliated Colleges are theological colleges. Some of the affiliated colleges offer courses to fill the first and second year Arts and Science requirements for students’ chosen degree programs or to meet the entrance requirements for one of the professional colleges.

There are four Federated Colleges in Saskatchewan. They are located in Saskatoon and Regina. The Federated Colleges are each academically integrated with one of the universities but legally and financially independent. They offer undergraduate Arts and Science degree programs in a variety of areas as well as pre-professional studies.

Private vocational schools in Saskatchewan offer over 200 vocational training programs to prepare students for employment in a specific occupation.  They are privately owned and operated but must be registered with our Ministry and have approval on their programs.  Another resource for information on private vocational schools is the SaskNetwork website.

The Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) is Saskatchewan's primary public institution for skills training and technical education, recognized nationally and internationally.

Saskatchewan has two universities.  The University of Regina is located in Regina, and the University of Saskatchewan is located in Saskatoon.  They both offer distance education and correspondence courses in addition to those on site.  Both universities offer a range of undergraduate and graduate programs.
