Adult Basic Education (ABE) is an umbrella term that refers to a wide range of services, credit, and non-credit programs designed to help adult learners achieve their goals.

Individuals and employers can access career and employment information and programs through 19 offices located across Saskatchewan

Credit Transfer (CT) is defined as the process by which credit is granted towards a credential by one institution for programs or courses previously completed at a recognized institution.

The Degree Authorization Act expands degree-granting authority in the province beyond our two universities, by allowing other post-secondary institutions to apply for the authority to offer degree programs.  Established quality standards will determine an institution's capacity to offer degrees and will assess proposed new degree programs.

These programs can help individuals transition into and within the workforce.

The GED® tests offer adults who have not completed high school the opportunity to obtain the equivalent of a Grade 12 standing.  The Grade 12 equivalency is a recognized credential that can lead to employment opportunities, career advancement and further education.

You may be eligible to receive a tax credit of up to $20,000! The GRP provides a rebate up to $20,000 of tuition fees paid by eligible graduates who live in Saskatchewan and who file a Saskatchewan income tax return.

From 2000-2007, the Government of Saskatchewan had two previous graduate tax benefit programs for graduates from post-secondary programs.

Our Immigration Programs and Services include: developing immigration policies; administering the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP); and coordinating funding programs and services for immigrants and stakeholders. Our goal is to strengthen Saskatchewan’s welcoming communities and to create greater prosperity in the province.

The Innovation and Science Fund (ISF) will provide funding to Saskatchewan universities, colleges and research institutes to support projects.

Saskatchewan has interprovincial agreements with post-secondary institutions in other provinces to reserve seats in specific health discipline programs for Saskatchewan students.

An agreement with the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) was signed on May 17, 2011, to establish a joint task force on aboriginal education and employment, to  consult on and identify practical, grass-roots solutions for eliminating current gaps in education and employment outcomes for First Nations and Métis people in Saskatchewan.

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) is a systematic process that assesses and recognizes an individual’s knowledge and skills regardless of where or how the learning was acquired.

PTA provides grant funding to assist with the costs of living for low income adult students enrolled full-time in basic education, workforce development programs or quick skills training which are not eligible for student loan funding.

Private vocational schools in Saskatchewan offer over 200 vocational training programs to prepare students for employment in a specific occupation.  They are privately owned and operated but must be registered with our Ministry and have approval on their programs.    

Qualification Recognition (QR) practices involve the fair, credible, and standardized assessment of credentials to assist employers, educational institutions and professional regulatory bodies in making informed decisions.

Recognizing Prior Learning (RPL) is a broad umbrella concept which values all learning that people have gained in their lives.

The Regional Colleges Act requires a review of the regional college system at least once every five years.  The final report Saskatchewan's Regional Colleges: Towards a New System was received by Honourable Minister Rob Norris and published on April 7, 2011.  There are 20 recommendations contained in the report.

The Saskatchewan Scholarship of Honour recognizes Saskatchewan men and women serving in the Canadian Forces.

The Ministry provides funding under the Skills Training Allocation to the public training institutions to deliver training programs that address the needs of Saskatchewan business and industry for skilled workers in the areas of greatest labour market demand.

The objective of the Skills Training Benefit program is to assist clients who are EI eligible to return to the labour market as quickly as possible and to improve their employability.

Three contracted firms provided work on behalf of our Ministry related to business operation and management of St. Peter's College (SPC) and Carlton Trail Regional College (CTRC). A summary of the work, weekly progress reports and updates on further actions  are provided herein for clarity and transparency.

Student Summer Works (SSW) is a summer program designed to connect students to quality part-time and full-time employment.

Our Ministry offers student financial assistance and support programs including student loans; scholarships; grants; bursaries; support for part time students; support for students with permanent disabilities; the Saskatchewan Scholarship of Honour (SOH); the Provincial Training Allowance (PTA), the Graduation Retention Program (GRP) and the Skills Training Benefit (STB).   

The Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration is working in partnership with the Federal government to deliver a multi-year initiative to help older workers be reintegrated into the workforce.

Provincial funding for TEL ended effective March 31, 2010.

The Workplace Essential Skills Saskatchewan Initiative supports business and industry to train low-skilled job seekers and existing low-skilled employees in the workplace to gain the workplace essential skills needed for long-term employment and/or advancement.

The WFD-PD Program provides funding to assist adults with disabilities to prepare for, secure and maintain employment.
