Saskatchewan 2011 Wage Survey

Insightrix Research Inc. was contracted to undertake a provincial wage survey of employers in Saskatchewan in 2011. Results from the survey provide wage information on 324 occupations in the province. The 2011 survey collected wage information from 1,461 employers, representing over 113,000 employees in the province.

Objectives of the Wage Survey

The primary objectives of the 2011 wage survey included the provision of:

  • Reliable, timely wage information for:
    • employers to enhance their competitiveness and attract and retain employees;
    • students and job seekers to have career information; and
    • researchers and policy analysts to inform policy development.
  • Wage information for the most common occupations in Saskatchewan, including:
    • hourly rate of pay;
    • full time/part time status;
    • gender;
    • union/non-union status;
    • journeyperson/non-journeyperson status for the apprenticeship trades;
    • mean (average), median; and
    • maximum wage, minimum wage, and percentile pay rates.
  • Sub-provincial wage data for the City of Regina, City of Saskatoon, Regina CMA, Saskatoon CMA, and the rest-of-the-province.

Wage Survey Results

The results are available in the Saskatchewan Wage Survey Report 2011 that provides occupational wage information that is searchable alphabetically by occupational title and by Statistics Canada 2006 National Occupational Classification (NOC) code (see Related Documents).  Wage information is based on reported hourly wage rates, excluding bonuses, vacation pay, tips, overtime, shift differentials, retroactive payments, and any other special payments. Occupational wage data is also provided on a regional basis for the City of Regina, City of Saskatoon, the Regina and Saskatoon Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs), and the rest of the province outside of the two major cities and CMAs.

Wage Survey Methodology

The methodology used to conduct the 2011 Saskatchewan Wage Survey of employers is described in the Saskatchewan Wage Survey Methodology Report 2011 (see Related Documents).

Previous Provincial Wage Surveys

A similar wage survey was undertaken in 2009 that provided wage information on 244 common occupations in the province (see Saskatchewan Wage Survey Archive).  The 2009 Saskatchewan Wage Survey collected wage information from 1,100 employers, representing nearly 90,000 employees in the province.  Occupational wage data was provided on a regional basis for the City of Regina, City of Saskatoon, and the rest of the province outside of the two major cities.  A similar methodology was used to undertake the 2009 wage survey.
