The Ministry provides funding under the Skills Training Allocation to the public training institutions to deliver training programs that address the needs of Saskatchewan business and industry for skilled workers in the areas of greatest labour market demand.

The Skills Training Allocation is designed to:

  • address the immediate and ongoing needs of a changing labour market as well as the training needs of the unemployed and under-employed;
  • provide accredited training that leads to sustainable employment;
  • promote opportunities and increase participation for First Nations and Métis people, social assistance recipients, persons with disabilities, women in underrepresented occupations, visible minorities and youth;
  • increase labour market attachment for all participants;
  • engage Saskatchewan employers in the development and delivery of  skills training that meets their  needs for skilled workers; and
  • involve labour market partners in the planning, delivery and accountability for results.

Skills training programs are offered and delivered through the Regional Colleges, Lakeland College, SIAST campuses, the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) and Dumont Technical Institute (DTI).

Unemployed individuals interested in training should contact the nearest public training institution or Canada/ Saskatchewan Career and Employment Services office.
